    ND-Pitt Scarecrow
I put this up even though 99% of the neighbors won't get it. I don't blame them since scarecrows wear paper bags anyway.

    Not Complete Bias
They called an offsides on Pitt in the 3rd quarter, chopping our 2nd and 25 to 2nd and 20. And thus, Pitt finished with a total of 5 penalty yards.

    Game Notes: ND@Pitt 2009
1st: At least we aren't getting blown out. Lol, standards sunk this low.

We can move the ball too, as we could against everyone except USC. There is no reason why we can't beat anyone except USC. I guess the Pac10 is really stacked because USC never loses ooc except Texas.

2nd: Our D is holding them and the O is not throwing all over them? We should have points.

    Seriously.

    3rd:

WTF is going on? How can we not have 400 yards against these people.

4th: Clausen being Clausen. Can't risk throwin the ball on 3rd and long.

EVERY CALL goes against Notre Dame AGAIN.

    Pitt is It
I don't know what to think about tonight. This could have been a very important clash (in which the Big East refs would and still do have a huge financial interest) between an 8-1 ND vs an undefeated Pitt. But ND choked twice and Pitt had an close loss to NC St.

Back when it happened I told the 4rons that Pitt was good and should be ranked. They said something like "lol Wannstedt" to refute me.

The nail in Ty's coffin was hammered in with the rigged game in 2004.
The Charlie Weis era began with a clash @ Pitt 2005 and all of sudden ND was good again.
Now does the last hope for Weis vanish?

It is looking grim for Charlie, even I have thrown him under the bus. though I feel sorry for the passengers. Technically he won't be fired if he finishes 10-3, but that means he beat Pitt and a Stanford team, who is currently up 14 against USC.

So I'm in that icky gray area where I worry that Notre Dame success might result in the retention of Weis and Clausen, both of whom I would prefer in the NFL next year.

    They Did It, Again
For the 3rd time, the hourly's at Cox Cable disconnected me. In one day, without warning or notice, cable and internet is turned off.

The previous two times it was because they hadn't realized the name on this address's account had been changed. "Someone"* goes to the apartment complex to check and disconnect people from one center. Said person doesn't verify with the company before turning off my cable. I am tilted because I have a bunch of stuff to do tonight.

3 weeks ago I told the techincians (who drove out to re-connnect me) "could you put a note on my switch telling that person that it's a new tenant so he won't shut me off?" Of course they told me that it was all taken care of and I wouldn't be disconnected again.

    * I suspect this job is done by and independant contractor of sorts as no one from Cox Cable seems to know who he is.

LiveJournal Major Notes: Notes, Tweaks, Bug Kills, LJ_Cares!

    Notes augmented

We've enhanced and de-bugged Notes. If you haven't tried it yet, now's the time! You can create a private note when you ban multiple users. You can also delete multiple notes at once. Lastly, paid users have the option to add a note (visible only to you) whenever you add or remove a friend (guaranteed to avoid embarrassing social mishaps). If you don't currently have a paid account, you can upgrade now! It only takes a few minutes and costs less than a bad shopping mall haircut (plus, it's way more fashionable)!

    Product tweaks and bug kill

    1. In another effort to zap spam, comments containing links from domains LiveJournal deems untrustworthy are now automatically screened
    2. If you sign up to get notifications of the Writer's Block question of the day, you'll now see the daily question in the email notification, so you'll have a little extra time to ponder before you post. You can subscribe to Writers Block notifications here
    3. The issue causing random comments to vanish has been fixed!
    4. If you visit a LiveJournal page and get prompted to log in, you'll be returned to the same page after you sign in (Thanks, Dreamwidth)!
    5. If you don't edit the timestamp for an entry at all, the entry timestamp will indicate the time the entry was posted instead of the time the Update Journal page was loaded
    6. Comments with paddings/backgrounds render correctly within the comment box (and will no longer wrap outside the box and break frames/margins)

New FCK fixes rich text editor!

    1. We've updated our RTE (Rich Text Editor) to FCKeditor version 2.6.5
    2. When switching from the RTE to HTML editor, links for syndicated feeds are no longer broken
    3. RTE now functions properly in Safari 4.0
    4. An extra line/space will not be auto-inserted whenever you switch from RTE to HTML editor
    5. The insert image link now works correctly in all browsers

    LiveJournal Cares

We’re pleased to introduce you to [info]lj_cares, a new LiveJournal community dedicated to raising awareness and funds for U.S. charitable organizations that improve the health and well-being of people around the world. Each month, we’ll spotlight a nonprofit that is making a significant global impact through medical research, public outreach, and/or humanitarian social programs. Charities will be selected in accordance with the U.S. calendar of national health observances based on a high rating (of over 60%) on Charity Navigator and global scope of impact.

In this, our inaugural month of November, we will celebrate national adoption month by offering a charitable virtual gift (priced at $2.99) to support Love Without Boundaries, an organization that saves the lives of orphans with life-threatening diseases and places them in loving homes around the world. LiveJournal will donate 100% of the proceeds from the sale of charitable vgifts (we'll cover the cost of credit card transaction fees). To learn more about Love Without Boundaries, please visit [info]lj_cares and read about how they helped save Baby Kang and the Rainbow Twins from fatal illnesses, who are now thriving in nurturing families. You can purchase your Love Without Boundaries gifts in the Virtual Gift shop.

Math and Law Geeks: Help Joe Put Bayes Theorum in a Presentation

We have a presentation Thursday in Torts on a school bus crash that happened in Kentucky. A drunk driver hit the bus which soon caught fire in a disaster. I am doing "duty" which refers mostly whether Ford has a duty to build a safe bus and how safe it should be in a collision.

Can I make use of Bayes theorum in the design of buses? That is the question.

I want to work it in because last week I asked another group about it, and was cut off before I could tell anyone what it is. Their group was presenting on suing Hospitals for emotional distress stemming from false positives on HIV tests.* That is a common application for Bayes so I am a little tiffed that no one in the law school seems to have heard of it, or realizes that a great test can still yield a lot of misses: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bayes_theorum#Example_1:_Drug_testing

But this is bus liability. I am not sure if it applies here I am wondering if it is proper to go along the lines of: a mostly safe bus has a small chance of catching fire in a collision that itself is very rare...

*Yeah, the legal system irritates me too.  Fortunately most of the claims were denied.

    No Spoilers Dodging
I knew from past exerience that there was no dodging the spoilers from the WSOP.  Last year ESPN announced it the next morning even though they were the network that was airing the episode that night.

I figured there was no way to avoid it as the web blares the headlines in front you constantly.  Today's culprit was yahoo.com which flashed the name and picture of the winner when I tried to check my email.  Email providers and Leno's monologue are where I get 99% of the pop culture news I don't seek out.

    Good News Keeps on Coming

Seems crass to complain about other stuff on the evening of a shooting. But I will anyway lest I forget tomorrow. The good news just keeps on rolling in on censoring the internet. http://news.cnet.com/8301-13578_3-10390779-38.html

Now a U.S. House of Representatives bill is taking the unusual step of requiring Internet providers to block access to online financial scams that fraudulently invoke the Securities Investor Protection Corporation--or face fines and federal court injunctions. If passed, where do you think it's going?

    We Have Him Alive
I heard a shooting in Texas once glancing at yahoo today.  I didn't start getting info until I got home.  Then the story started changing.

Said loon is a phsychiatrist, and a Muslim, and native born American citizen of Jordanian descent.

And they got him alive, as the shots didn't kill him.  Very rare aquisition.

LiveJournal Major Notes: Spam counter-attack, RSS feeds again, CSI Deadly Intent contest

    The empire strikes back

In recent weeks, we've taken huge steps towards blocking spam accounts on LiveJournal. In fact, we've suspended as many as 30,000 accounts in a single day! We've implemented several pre-emptive measures to prevent the creation of spam accounts, and we've honed our detection of suspicious content. Spam bots are a crafty lot, so we'll continue to refine our tactics and keep up the good fight to keep you safe from spam attacks on LiveJournal.

    RSS feeds again

If you're addicted to [info]xkcd_rss, [info]icanhaschzbrgr, or other syndicated feeds, we're pleased to report that we've resolved the update error that was mucking up your RSS feeds. While content was being pulled correctly, it wasn't being posted to the feeds themselves. Late last week, we finally nailed down what we hope was the root problem, so content should post properly. We thank you for your patience.

    Splitters
Conservatives won in NJ, Va, and on gay marriage in Me.  We didn't win in NY on the only congress seat that was up.  So it wasn't a sweep but tilted in direction of conservatives.  JPmassar denied that governships are indicators, which is likely to be true since I think the number of swing voters who pick their governor on party winds of change is small.  Still I would think that races in off years give a better indicator of momentum.

But it was still kind of a split decision and President Obama's approval ratings are kind of above 50%, so the country is still behind him.

    Off Year Elections
Are boring.  I heard they are indicators, in 2005 Laura Ingram was warning us [correctly] about 2006 but I am not sure that applies in a President's first year.  Especially when there are only 3 and all on the east coast.
